Finding work without first obtaining any real or practical experience can be frustrating. Changing careers without having really researched and sampled a new area is often impossible. However undertaking one or more internships is an excellent way to break the loop and gain the required experience.
SU therefore insists that students carry out at least one internship per year (sometimes more, depending on the course). These work placements allow the student to see at first hand the realities of the world of business. It is accepted practice that an internship is a requirement of any good and complete education in today’s world.
We, too, are convinced of its worth to both the student and to the organisation providing the placement. Furthermore, it enables the University to ensure that its curriculum is up-to-date and students are able to put into practice the theory and skills they have learnt in a real environment. Companies can also benefit from input from a new and dynamic source.
Every internship requires clearly defined pedagogical objectives and that is why each placement is agreed with the company, the student and the student advisor beforehand ,with the aim of: Enabling the intern to develop the theory and skills that he or she has learnt in a professional environment, at the same time offering constructive feedback on the learning objectives agreed, and Helping students to successfully integrate into the world of business on termination of their studies.
